Alcoholism as a disease
Alcoholism can be characterized as abusing alcohol to the extent that it hinders the ability to carry on life and relationships normally.
Alcohol abuse/dependence not only deteriorates liver capacity, but also life capacity. Each drink seems irresistible and once someone has fallen into the clutches of alcoholism, it can seem hopeless to bring them back to normal. Thankfully, alcoholism can be effectively treated through counseling (identifying the underlying problems) and other weening techniques.

Alcoholism in india
Every year the Onam harvest festival in India encourages rowdy binge drinking and other unhealthy drinking habits. Aside from this festival, India has emerged as less hesitant toward alcohol than it has been it previous years. Alcohol is being introduced at a much younger age, from 19 years to 13 years. Beverage industries attempt to make a profit from the estimate 14 million alcoholics in India by producing flavored, sweet drinks to appeal to women and children. India has been identified as prime for investment in liquor. These trends will continue to grow until alcoholism and alcohol responsibility in general is discussed.
How to solve alcoholism for dummies: india edition
Indian health ministers have suggested regulating the cost of drinks in an attempt to discourage consumption with exorbitant prices (sadly, this sort of price or "tax" did not stop colonial Bostonians from their tea...)
By using government and humanitarian funds, Indians can help each other rise from slumps and recognize the problems that manifest themselves as alcoholism. Often times, alcohol is used as an escape and freedom from everyday woes and worries; however, this risky release from life can lead to alcohol dominating. Instead of looking to alcohol for the solution, Indians can work together to solve their problems and treat the cause not the symptoms.
Typically, there is a defined line separating diseases from certain parts of the world and confining them to others. Tuberculosis, malaria, and cholera are hardly present in advanced countries such as the United States, where public health measures and regulations stop the spreading. Alcoholism, however, knows no breed. That is to say alcoholism can be found rampant among Americans just as much as Indians; however, in India, alcoholism can often times be attributed back to the poverty in many areas. By eliminating poverty, alcoholism will eventually fade because the root of people's problems will have been eliminated.
